Kant · Early Modern

Portrait of Laura Benzenberg

I work on Kant. At the heart of Kant’s philosophy lies his theory of reason, a faculty that makes infinite demands on finite beings: in theory, to complete science; in practice, to realize the highest good. My research asks how we could ever answer such demands, and why Kant thinks we must. I also trace these ideas back to his early modern predecessors.

I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the History of Philosophy Forum at the University of Notre Dame. Before that, I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Université de Fribourg. I hold a PhD from the University of Cambridge and a BPhil from the University of Oxford. I also studied at Humboldt University of Berlin and was a visiting researcher at Princeton University and the University of Cologne.
